Willis "Gene" Darby, 96, of Huron, and formerly of Vermilion, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Born to parents Allen and Gladys (Nuhn) Darby on September 7, 1927, Willis led a life filled with dedication and service.
Willis, a 1945 Vermilion High School graduate, served as a Foreman at Clevite in Milan, Ohio, dedicating 23 years to his work before retiring in 1991. His commitment extended beyond the workplace, as he also served in the United States Army, contributing to the nation's defense with honor and valor. His sense of duty and community involvement extended to his membership in the First Presbyterian Church in Huron, and the Sandusky Maritime Museum in Sandusky, where he played a vital role in its creation. Additionally, Willis was a proud member of the AMVETS in Sandusky.
Willis is survived by his loving wife, Eileen Wikel-Darby; his son, Gregory S. and Marlene (Ivan) Darby of North Carolina; his brother, Allen and Virginia (Fornash) Darby of Republic; his step-daughter, Linda (Wikel) and Timothy Wilcox of Norwalk; as well as grandsons, Tyler and Kelsi (Rose) Wilcox of Sandusky and Thomas Wilcox of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy J. (Roggerman) Darby, and his brother, Robert E. Darby.
