William Adam Stough

William “Bill” Stough, 95, of Huron, beloved husband of Carolyn (Bremer) Stough, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 27, 1930, in Lorain, to Elmer and Helen Stough.

Bill was an exceptionally gifted lifelong athlete. He played collegiate baseball at Bowling Green State University from 1948 to 1952 before signing with the Cleveland Indians organization in 1952. After one season with the organization, his professional baseball career was interrupted by military service, during which he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.

Following his honorable service, Bill returned to the diamond, pitching for the Cleveland Indians' minor league affiliate in Olean, New York. Upon his release from professional baseball in 1955, he returned to Lorain and became the ace pitcher for the Class A National Tube baseball team. That same year, he led the team to national acclaim by capturing the prestigious National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF) Championship. His remarkable athletic achievements were later recognized with his induction into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame, an organization that remained very close to his heart.

In 1956, Bill began what would become a rewarding 35-year career with National Tube, a division of U.S. Steel. He began his professional career in Lorain, and Later retired from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bill and Carolyn spent many wonderful years in Pittsburgh, where they raised their six daughters—his  "girls"—and built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. A loving and devoted father, Bill found great joy in supporting his daughters, whether cheering from the sidelines, celebrating their academic achievements, or simply being present for life's everyday moments. In 1995, drawn by the tranquility of life along the lake, Bill and Carolyn returned to Huron, where they enjoyed a well-earned retirement together.

Bill was an avid golfer who loved the peaceful Huron community. He also enjoyed playing poker and bridge and especially treasured the countless hours spent around the kitchen table playing cards with his grandchildren. Above all else, Bill's greatest joy was his family. He was an incredibly proud grandfather and great-grandfather who faithfully followed the activities, sporting events, accomplishments, and milestones of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Carolyn; his six daughters, Vicki Davis (Ian), Susan Turner (Ken), Chrissi Mann (Ken), Connie Hartman (Bruce), Karen Adelman (Steve), and Kathie Swaney (David); 14 cherished grandchildren, Joshua, Taylor, Savannah, Kendall, Connor, Patrick, Courtney, Hannah, James, Emmett, Timothy, Jessica, and Scott; and five treasured great-grandchildren, Melody, Molly, Maddy, Aliena, and Sienna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Helen Stough; his sisters, Jeanne Sheller and Zoe Ann Stough; his brother-in-law, Don Sheller; and his precious granddaughter, Katie.

Calling hours will be from 9-10:20 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main Street, Huron. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main Street, Huron. Burial will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
