William Bainbridge Obituary

HURON - William Thomas Bainbridge (“Bill”), 89, of Huron, passed away Jan 21, 2021 in Sandusky. He was born on March 14, 1931 in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

In 1950 Bill married Fern Katherine Reed of Cleveland. Ohio. Bill attended The Ohio State University where he graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1953. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army Medical Core in 1954 and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany where he served as Commanding Officer of the 547th Medical Clearing Company. Fern joined Bill in Germany and their first child was born in 1955. Upon completion of his military service, the couple returned to the Cleveland area where they had two more children.

After returning from Germany, Bill and his partner, Tom Apter, opened their own pharmacy in Independence, Ohio in 1958. He was a charter member of the Rotary Club of Independence and served as its president and secretary.

In 1973, Bill and Fern relocated their family to Huron, Ohio where Bill managed the golf course, marina, and gift shops, located at Sawmill Creek, until his retirement.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his family. Bill was an avid photographer and has left his family numerous beautiful photos of his children and grandchildren to cherish for years to come. Bill enjoyed golfing and was an avid fan of Cleveland sports and Ohio State football.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Bainbridge; brothers Phillip and Henry Bainbridge, wife Fern Bainbridge, and grandson, Steven Bainbridge. He is survived by his sons, Dale Bainbridge (Allison Chappo), David (Jennifer) Bainbridge; daughter, Kathy (Rick) Beilhart; and grandchildren, Alex Beilhart, Mathew Beilhart, and Jessica Bainbridge.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either Doctor’s Without Boarders or your local Food Bank.
