Wilbur F. Ramsey

HURON - Wilbur Frederick Ramsey, 97, of Huron, Ohio died Sunday, April 22, 2018 in Sandusky.

He was born June 28, 1920 in Kankakee, Illinois and was the son of Wilbur D. Ramsey and Ila G. Ramsey. Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Mary Ruth Ramsey; his three sisters, Maxine Hanna Virginia McDonald and Anna Young; and his brother,

Roger Ramsey. Wilbur is survived by his children, Linda K. Herchek and Donald L. (Renee') Ramsey; seven grandchildren, Michael (Wendy) Herchek, Susan (Jeffrey) Flynn, Andrew (Auburn) Herchek, Kelly (Jermaine) Spivey, John (Joanna) Ramsey, Stephanie (Jason) Kasparek,

and Elizabeth Lindberg; twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Wilbur had been a resident of Huron since childhood and was a 1938 graduate of Huron High School. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Philippine Islands as a staff sergeant with the United States Army. Wilbur was a retiree from the Huron Dock Company, where he had been the chief electrician on the ore and coal docks for 35 years. During his lifetime Wilbur devoted many years to civic service for the City of Huron. He was a twenty-five year member and retiree of the Huron Volunteer Fire Department, a twelve year member and past president of the Huron School Board, and a multi-year member and chairman of Huron's Zoning Board of Appeals and other municipal committees. Wilbur was also a member of the Huron United Methodist Church since his childhood and had served many years as a church trustee.

Wilbur had enjoyed many years of retirement traveling extensively throughout the United States and Canada with his wife in their Airstream trailer. He had served as president of the Toledo, Ohio Unit of the W.B.C.C.I. and had led many of their caravans to the annual Airstream

Rallies. Wilbur enjoyed playing his piano and had the gift of playing by ear. Wilbur will be most remembered for his smiles and his kind and friendly ways.

Friends may call Wednesday, April 25th from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main Street, Huron. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 26th at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 338 Williams Street, Huron, with Rev. Roger Skelley-Watts officiating.

Burial will be at Scott Cemetery, Huron.
