Thomas “Tom” Green, “Greenie” to friends, went home to be with the Lord on February 5, 2026. He passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family following complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He was 74 years old.
Born to Thomas and Janice Green in 1951, he attended St. Peter’s School and was a 1969 graduate of Huron High School. He was a member of the Varsity H team, Key Club, football and track teams.
Tom enjoyed a varied, multi-layered career that reflected his strong work ethic and adaptability. Starting as a lineman with Ohio Edison, he segued into a position as an electrician with the Lake Erie Ore Docks in Huron and worked on many famous freighters, most notably the Edmund Fitzgerald. After the ore docks closed, he continued his career at the Chrysler plant in Sandusky, and later concluded his career as an electrician with U.S. Steel in Lorain.
Tom was a magnetic force and people gravitated towards him. He made many new friends everywhere he went, as well as maintaining his lifelong friends from high school. If you were around Tom, you were guaranteed to laugh because he always had a great story (and probably a new nickname) for you.
A lifelong music lover, Tom played the drums in a band consisting of friends and former classmates. The “Nuclear Test Band” members played more for fun than for an audience, but they were very skilled and talented. If you were able to hear them perform, you were privileged to hear a great show. He passed on his love of music to all of his kids.
Above all else, Tom loved his family deeply, and that love was felt by all who knew him. He was always ready to help out anyone when they needed it. He had a very strong and enduring faith, and his love for God sustained him for decades. We are all better people for his presence in our lives, both as a family member and as a parent who actively demonstrated his faith. Tom’s example as a father, family member, and man of faith leaves a lasting legacy. We will forever keep him in our hearts with God.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Janice “Nan” Green. He is survived by his son, Jim (Alea) Green and three daughters: Janice (James) Hassinger, Victoria Green, and Meghan Green; two granddaughters, Fiona and Kaylee Green; and two sisters residing in Arizona, Deborah (Ted) Paulk and Marguerite “Peg” Hearn.
A private service will be held at Foster Funeral Home in March, followed by a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
