Ronald McDavid Obituary

Ronald Riley McDavid, 83, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 18, 2026, of natural causes.

Born in 1942 to Riley and Dorothy McDavid, Ron grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and Kenosha, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a deep love for the outdoors—something that remained a constant throughout his life.

In 1970, Ron married the love of his life, Jane (Froemming) McDavid, a dedicated registered nurse whose compassion and strength beautifully matched his adventurous spirit. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, travel, and shared passions.

Ron was a proud marina owner and charter captain for more than 15 years in Port Clinton, Ohio. He found his greatest joy on the water—whether fishing with friends, guiding others on Lake Erie, or exploring new harbors. He was also an avid golfer, fisherman, and lifelong enthusiast of anything powered by an engine.

His adventures extended far beyond Ohio. Ron especially cherished fishing trips to Canada and exploring the landscapes of Ireland with Jane, his sister Dee, and brother-in-law Steve.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Jane; his daughter, Stephanie; son-in-law, Sean; and grandchildren, Alex and Ryleigh. He is also survived by his sisters, Dee Ann Zimmer and Catherine Schulte, along with many dear friends and extended family who will forever cherish his memory.

Ron will be remembered for his friendliness, warmth, and resilience in the face of adversity—and for the joy he brought to everyone fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and enduring connection.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ron’s name to support the Sandusky Senior Center, in memory of Ronald R. McDavid. Donations can be made at:
