Robert Joseph Gehring (Bob), 76, of Huron, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home on November 3, 2024.
Bob was born in Fostoria, OH, on June 10, 1948, to the late Edward A. Gehring and Gladys E. Gehring (Myers). After graduating from St. Wendelin’s High School in Fostoria in 1966, Bob followed in his father and uncle’s footsteps by enlisting in the United States Army. He trained at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and was soon deployed to Vietnam, where he served as a medic with the 1st Cavalry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, feeling honored to serve his country. One of his most cherished memories was attending an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., with his older brother, Jim. Bob was a devoted fan of OSU and Notre Dame football, and though he enjoyed playing many sports, his greatest passion was fishing and boating on Lake Erie with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Andreae, of Huron, OH; son, Mark Gehring (Susan) of Findlay, OH; daughter, Gina Murray, of Fostoria, OH; sister, Peg Gehring, of Fostoria, OH; stepson, Jay Thompson, of Columbus, OH; grandson, Steven Murray; granddaughters, Lucy Gehring Sullivan (Tori) and Lila Gehring; and great-granddaughter, Emerson Murray.
