Robert George Brunow, originally from Berlin Heights, Ohio, passed away on Friday afternoon at his home in Edmond, Oklahoma.
George was born in 1946 in Sandusky, Ohio. He was a 1966 graduate of Firelands High School and served in the Vietnam Conflict from 1966 to 1968. George married his wife of 48 years, Barbara, in 1975. He worked for the General Motors Corporation and the Delphi Corporation in Sandusky until his retirement in 2006.
George was a member of the Berlin Heights Kiwanis club and a proud member of the American Legion Post 659 in Berlin Heights where he served as Post Commander several times. He helped with the annual Chicken Barbeques and with the seasonal Turkey Shoots. George enjoyed gardening and travel. His favorite holiday was Christmas. During the holiday season, he grew amaryllis flowers and gave them as gifts to family and friends. In retirement, George enjoyed traveling – especially to Rome and Paris – and spending time with his grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by parents, Robert Carl and Georgianna (Richter) Brunow; brother, Ronald Brunow; brothers-in-law, Walter Rozmarynowycz and Stephen Kordupel; and nephew, Brian Leimbach.
He leaves behind his wife, Barbara (Kordupel) Brunow; children, David Brunow of Oklahoma City, Ohio and Molly Smercina of Toledo, Ohio; three grandchildren, McKenzi, Brock, and Kaleb Smercina; sister, Roberta Leimbach; nephew, Rodney (Amy) Leimbach; and several aunts and uncles.
Since moving to Oklahoma, George was a member of Saint Eugene Catholic Church in The Village. George was previously a parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church in Huron.
Friends and family may call on Friday March 17, 2023 from 9 - 10:15 AM at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main St., Huron 44839. Mass to follow visitation at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron 44839. Burial will take place at a later date.
