Rita Taylor Obituary

Rita M. Taylor, 94, of Huron, Ohio, passed away on April 3, 2026, at The Commons of Providence in Sandusky. She was born May 20, 1931, in Botkins, Ohio, to Aloys and Mary (Borchers) Hoying.

Rita married Kenneth Taylor on October 24, 1953. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2004, after 50 years of marriage.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Taylor; son-in-law, Kenny Artz; brothers, Robert, Virgil, Fr. John Hoying, and Lawrence (who died in childhood); and sisters, Agnes Buening, Dolores Shepherd, and Margaret Frances.

Rita is survived by her children: Debra (Kevin) Crooks of Lansdowne, PA; Janis Artz of Troy, Ohio; Sheryl Oglesbee of Huron, Ohio; Gregory (Kathryn) Taylor of Sycamore, IL; and Jeffrey (Debbie) Taylor of Ebony, VA; daughter-in-law, Rosemarie Taylor of Willowick, Ohio; sister, Sr. Madonna Hoying, SFP of Cincinnati; and sister-in-law, Lois Hoying of Fort Recovery, Ohio.

She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren: Kristen (Mike) Roseman, Steven (Brian) Crooks, Kimberly (Jason) Zola, Melissa (Michael) Gallenstein, Jason (Lacey) Taylor, Rebecca (Benjamin) Brunty, Joshua (Yoko) Artz, Nicole (Matt) Maurer, Ryan (Ashley) Artz, Brian (Jenny) Taylor, Scott (Emily) Taylor, Alex Taylor, Alyssa (Matt) Murray, Ethan Oglesbee, Kelsey Taylor, and Jake Taylor; as well as sixteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Rita was a 1949 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Celina, Ohio. In 1956, she moved to Troy, where she was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and worked as a credit manager for a small oil company. In 1980, she relocated to Huron and later worked as a bookkeeper at Breckenridge/Guest Supply until her retirement. She became a resident of The Commons of Providence in 2019.

Rita deeply loved her family and felt blessed to have one that remained close and genuinely enjoyed being together. Her warmth, devotion, and quiet strength will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory in Huron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 10, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Huron, followed by burial at Scott Cemetery.
