Rita Moscioni Obituary

Rita (Steinberger) Moscioni, age 80, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, at Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky, Ohio. A longtime resident of Huron, Ohio, Rita made the community her home for 58 years.

Rita will be fondly remembered for her fearless spirit, her spunky energy that could light up any room, and her unwavering loyalty to the people she loved. Her strength, humor, and steadfast devotion were a gift to all who knew her. Rita brought joy and a playful spirit to her everyday life and cherished every moment she shared with others. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she especially loved her family and held a deep affection for the staff and students of Huron City Schools. She was also an avid sports fan, especially of the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes.

Rita was born and raised in Fremont, Ohio, and graduated from Green Springs High School in 1963. She earned her degree in education from Bowling Green State University. She was married to her beloved husband, Joseph Moscioni, for 58 years.

A woman of strong faith, Rita was a devoted member of St. Peter Catholic Church and attended Mass regularly. She dedicated over 45 years of her life to serving the Huron City Schools, first as a school bus driver and later as an administrative assistant at McCormick Middle School and most recently at Woodlands Intermediate School. She also taught driver’s education for many years and owned a driver instruction school.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Alexius U. and Bernadette (Poorman) Steinberger; siblings Bill, Don, and Mary Louise Steinberger; and her infant daughter, Julia Moscioni.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Moscioni; her children Christina (Timothy) Marksbury, Daniel (Renee) Moscioni, and Sandi (Jason) Passek; and her grandchildren Nicholas Marksbury, Emily Moscioni (Blaine MacFarland), Justin Moscioni, Maria Moscioni, Olivia (Nathaniel) Rominski, Jenna Passek, and Luke Passek. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Giovanni and Mason.

Rita is also survived by her siblings: Carl (Linda) Steinberger, Betty (Bill) Obringer, Irene (Don) Ball, Tom (Debbie) Steinberger, Jim (Maureen) Steinberger, Ed (Rita) Steinberger, Aggie (Jeff) Mackey, Joe (Cathy) Steinberger, and Bob (Kathy) Steinberger; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and all those who considered themselves part of her extended family.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the care team at Firelands Regional Medical Center and to the Huron City School District for their support.
