Patricia M. (Altman) Basilone

Patricia M. (Altman) Basilone peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the age of 93.

Originally from Lisbon, Ohio, Pat later moved to Huron.  She attended Huron High School where she met her future husband, William (Bill) C. Basilone. After graduating together in 1948, William joined the United States Air Force and a short time later they were married on October 8, 1949. Bill and Pat traveled the world together, and sometimes apart, for 30 years while Bill (and Pat) served his country. This included duty in the Philippines (to where Pat traveled alone with newly born son Garry), England, Vietnam, and Germany. During that time they raised six children; one son and five daughters.

After Bill’s retirement from the Air Force in 1978, they returned to Huron for the remainder of their lives. Patricia became active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority and sang for more than 20 years with the local chapter of Sweet Adelines. An avid reader Pat had a thirst for knowledge. Always willing to learn, she transitioned from physical books to her Kindle and was always on her iPad staying in touch with friends and family. She loved getting photos and news from her family who were now traveling, as she and Bill once did, and raising their own families. An active member of St. Peter Catholic Church, she sang in the choir for many years. Patricia was also an experienced seamstress and became interested in quilting and joined a “quilting bee”, making many baby quilts for the newly baptized babies in the church.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, John M. Altman Sr. and Hazel M. (Clunk) Altman; her sister, Marilou (Altman) Anderson; her brother, John M. Altman Jr.; and her son, Garry M. Basilone.

Patricia is survived by her five daughters, Linda A. Basilone of Grove City, Ohio, Mary Jane Basilone (Rick Farrell) of Monument, Colorado, Diane P. Basilone of Littleton, Massachusetts, Karen S. (Clayton) Goya of Germany, and Janet L. Basilone Welsh of Huron, Ohio; Daughter-in-Law, Cathy Basilone (widow of Garry); 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; along with 14 nieces and nephews.

Visitation is at Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main St., Huron, Ohio 44839, on Monday, November 13, 2023,  from 4-6:30 PM with a Vigil Service at 6:30. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron, Ohio 44839, on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 10 AM.
