HURON - Nancy J. (Clark) Thornhill , 75, of Huron, died at her residence, Tuesday, April 28, 2020, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Norwalk, January 14, 1945, she was the youngest of four daughters born to Clarence and Elizabeth (Betty) Clark (Seery). She graduated from Norwalk High School and the Sandusky School of Practical Nursing and became a licensed practical nurse. She attended Lorain Community College and Bowling Green State University pursuing a nursing degree.
In 1988 Nancy and Jay W. Thornhill of Sylvania, Ohio we’re married by the Rev. Gerald Ceranowski at St. Peter Catholic Church in Huron. She had two sons, Robert P. Smith and Christopher T. Smith.
Nancy loved acrylic painting, researching recipes, cooking, working in her backyard and decorating her home. She was the company nurse for Tenneco Automotive in Milan, formerly Gould and Clevite. Nancy was previously employed by Fisher-Titus and Sandusky Memorial Hospitals and owned and operated PRO-MED Claims Service keeping records and consulting for those insured by Medicare. Nancy taught medical office assisting for Sandusky Adult Education, was the co-director of the Old Plat Association of Huron, was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Huron and an active member of the Sandusky Bay Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association serving as president, secretary, and treasurer, where she was also elected Chapter Woman of the year. She was named Providence Hospital’s Woman of Excellence. Nancy was elected to Huron City Council, served six years and was also a member of the Huron City Planning Commission and Huron City Design Review Board. Huron City Council appointed her to the Erie County Board of Health. She also served on the board of trustees of Erie County Serving Our Seniors.
She leaves her beloved husband Jay, and her son Robert Smith of Norwalk, her grandson Thomas Smith of Norwalk, her granddaughter Tori Smith of Norwalk, a sister Betty Farnsley (William), of Marengo, Indiana; a cousin, Patrick Clark (Patsy) of Amherst and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence , who died when Nancy was 5 and mother, Elizabeth Clark, her son Christopher T. Smith of Norwalk, former husband, Thomas F. Smith, sisters Barbara J. Kohlmeyer (Robert) of Norwalk and Margaret M. (Peggy) Polotta (Tony) of Arizona, maternal and paternal grandparents, several aunts, uncles, a niece, a nephew and cousins.
Private services and burial will take place at Scott Cemetery.
