HURON - Mary Jane Novotny 79, of Huron passed away peacefully after a sixteen-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born in Beaver Falls, PA, and resided in Koppel, PA until graduating from Lincoln High School in Elwood City, PA. She obtained her RN degree from Providence Hospital, School of Nursing in Beaver Falls. Upon graduation, she worked as a nurse in North Miami Beach, FL and moved on to Rainbow Babies and Children’s in Cleveland, OH, where she met her husband. After marriage she moved to Columbus, OH and worked at St. Ann’s Hospital and Riverside Hospital. She worked at Euclid General Hospital while her husband attended dental school and in 1978 moved to Huron, OH with her family. She worked in her husband’s dental practice as the office manager until she retired.
She was always active in her community and volunteered with the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Welcome Wagon. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron and served as a Eucharistic Minister, participated in a women’s bible study group and was a member of the annual auction committee. Her hobbies included watching old western movies, reading mystery novels, theater, travel, collecting cookbooks and Longaberger Baskets. She also enjoyed the local craft shows.
She is survived by her husband Donald J. Novotny, DDS; daughter, Deb (Paul) Gillett of Westerville, OH; son, Don (Kim) Novotny Jr, of Cincinnati; brother, Patrick Tavern, Beaver Falls, PA; grandchildren, D.J., Benjamin and Sarah.
She is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Marian Tavern; sister, Dee Obermeier; and brother, Frank Tavern, Jr.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, at a later date.
