Linda M McGory

HURON - Linda M. McGory, born March 23, 1950 to Maurice J. and Nina K. McGory, passed away in the early morning hours of March 1, 2021 after a 10 month battle with an aggressive form of cancer. Linda, a lifelong Huron resident, was a graduate of Huron High School and Ashland University. Linda earned a Master's Degree in School Counseling from Bowling Green State University.  She had careers in the Huron, Berlin-Milan and Keystone School districts as an art teacher and school counselor prior to retirement. 

Even when faced with a challenging diagnosis further clouded by the pandemic, Linda continued to cultivate joy and spread it abundantly to others, with an electric smile and grateful heart. Linda was dedicated to her family and made certain no one in her presence was ever hungry. Anyone lucky enough to spend time with Linda easily recalls her natural inclination to care for, nourish, and sweeten the lives of those around her. With an inherent artistic talent, her creativity was evident in everything that she did; music, painting, gardening, interior design, cooking and a knack for rearranging the furniture in the homes of friends, family, and, when on holiday, the occasional vacation rental. 

In addition to her work in education, the most important things in Linda’s life were her family and many very special friends with whom she spent happy days on the beach at Old Homestead and on road trips near and far. Linda is survived by her daughters, Ashlea (Alex) Gray, Erin (Thomas) Early, granddaughters Pipit and Sadie, grandson Finnegan, brother Peter (Holly) McGory, favorite Aunt and Uncle, Jan and John McGory, cousins Jeff, Greg and Andrea and their spouses, and very special friends and caregivers, especially Lura Magi, Barb “Richey” and husband John Ruth, Susan Murray, Trudi Pretzlaf, Al and Regina See, Linda Jones, Marlene “Boe” Behrens, and last, but not least, her feline friend, Fritzy. Linda was a prime example of the saying, “You can’t have too many friends!”  Those friends and family will always carry her memory with them- she can forever be found in the sunniest of beach days, in abundant planted gardens left to nature’s will, on the liveliest of dance floors, and in the stories that will be shared on moonlit porches by those who knew her best.

Linda’s family wishes to thank the staff at The Cleveland Clinic, Fisher Titus Home Health Center and Stein Hospice for the care and warmth they provided to Linda and her family on her end-of-life journey.

Her family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
