Laurel Cooley

Laurel Cooley, age 41, of Vermilion, Ohio passed away suddenly Friday morning December 11, 2021 and went to be with the Lord.

Laurel was born to Steve and Susan Mayes on December 3rd, 1980 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Laurel was a graduate of Berea High school and the Breckinridge School of Nursing.

Laurel Cooley was strong and loving, loud but tender, and lit up most rooms she walked into with her infectious laugh and amazing smile. She was strong in her faith and passionate about helping others. She inspired everyone she was around to not back down to life's challenges, all of this while being the glue to her household. She organized, marked the calendars, said who needed to be where, washed what needed to be washed, and loved who needed to be loved. She was the perfect wife and the best mom. She was everyone's mom. Her works embodied who she was and she will be missed by so many. To me, she was the best co-pilot a husband could ever ask for. We were so in love and we both lived to see each other happy.

To her oldest daughter Rebecca, she was a best friend. They shared a cheerful energy and loving selfless hearts. She was so happy to see what kind of a woman Rebecca was becoming as she took her steps into the world as an adult. To her son Simon, she was a partner in crime and cut from the same cloth through and through. Her strength, boldness, and confidence will be carried on through him the most. To her stepson Mason, she was a mom when away from his mom and she loved him so much. And to her youngest daughter Ada, she was mommy. A bedtime reader, a song singer, a story-time teller and so much more. Ada will certainly be the one to carry on her mother's sass. Laurel always wanted us to be just like her parents, Steve and Susan, in the way they were always there. We will all try so hard to fill the shoes of this amazing woman, but it will not be the same. We are all so grateful to know that she is resting in heaven with Jesus and her mema.

She is survived by her husband of 7 years, Ward (Lester) Cooley; children, Rebecca - 18, Simon - 16, Mason -16, and Ada Cooley - 4; parents, Steve and Susan Mayes; brother, Joel (Jennifer) Mayes and their four children Madison, Mallory, Elijah, and Elena.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Jane Mayes, and Clyde and Emogene Dalton. 

Services will be held at the Sandusky Chapel on Galloway Rd. on Monday December 20, 2021. A receiving of friends and family will be from 5-7pm with a memorial service to follow at 7pm.
