Larry Adam Hoffman, 88, residing in Huron, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Firelands Hospital in Sandusky, Ohio.
Larry was born on April 9, 1936, to the late Gilbert Conrad Hoffman and Earla Eda (Sprowl) Hoffman.
Larry graduated from Milan High School in 1954 where he was active in many school activities. He excelled in sports, playing basketball and baseball all 4 years at Milan High, and track for 3 years. He was also a member of FFA. He also served in the National Guard for two years. Larry continued his love of sports by playing for many years in adult baseball leagues throughout Erie County, among them Eastern States. He was a high school and college basketball official (referee) for the Bay Area Officials Association in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Larry met many friends throughout his life. He retired from the Ohio Dept of Transportation. While working there, he competed at the National Level for ODOT in the Roadeo in Colorado, placing second in the nation at the event.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, refinishing antique furniture, and watching all different sports. Larry was a lifetime member of the Berlin Heights Conservation Club, joining in 1958. He volunteered countless hours to the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue, Ohio during his retirement. Larry was a hard worker, a kind, loving man, who had the best smile ever.
He will never be forgotten and will be deeply missed. Larry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carmel (Gebelle); 3 daughters, Patricia VanScoy, Wendy Fahning, and Lisa Hoffman, all of Huron; his brother, Lynn Hoffman of Galion; 3 grandchildren, Danielle Fahning Moody (Patrick), Alexandria VanScoy Lacey (Tyler), and Cody Hoffman; 3 great grandchildren, Delilah and Lee Moody and Cameron Lacey; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert C. and Earla E. Hoffman (Sprowl); his brother, Gilbert (Dick) Hoffman; his son-in-law, Robert (Bob) VanScoy; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There will be a private family service at Foster Funeral Home with burial services following at Meadow Green Cemetery on Monday June 17, 2024.
