Judy McCarthy, 74, of Huron, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, surrounded by family.
Born on September 12, 1950, Judy grew up with a passion for learning and helping others. She earned her diploma from Slippery Rock State College in 1972. On December 2, 1972, she married the love of her life, Daniel McCarthy, and began a journey of service to her community.
Judy dedicated 30 years to teaching in the Sandusky Public Schools, retiring in 2002. Her passion for education continued as she became a preschool teacher and later head teacher at Little Wonders Preschool in Huron. She also worked at St. Joseph Elementary in Monroeville, sharing her love of learning with the youngest members of her community.
In addition to her teaching career, Judy served as a poll worker for the Erie County Board of Elections and volunteered extensively. She was a reading tutor at Shawnee School, supported local children through tutoring programs, worked with the Huron Food Pantry, and served on the Garden Committee at Woodlands Elementary. She was also a proud member of the Sandusky Yacht Club Women’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel McCarthy; sons, Ryan (Elizabeth) McCarthy and Michael McCarthy; daughter, Mallory (Daniel) Klonk; and three grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and a brother.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
