Jean Wright Obituary

Huron- Jean Katherine (Chandler) Wright, 91, passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2021, with her daughter Karen, who was her loving care giver and companion, at her side.

She was born on January 17, 1930, in Cleveland, the youngest daughter of Sherrill and Katherine (Gouwens) Chandler. Jean gained fame the day she was born and had her picture in the Plain Dealer because the doctor that delivered her was retiring after many years and she was his last delivery.

Her parents named her Fern Rosalie, but after Grandma Gouwens visited her, her name was changed to Jean Katherine. She was a survivor of a tsunami on Lake Erie at her grandparents. As a child, she enjoyed spending summers at her grandparent's cottage on the lake in Perry, Ohio. On a summer morning in 1942, she was told that there had been a tsunami on Lake Erie, but all would be well. She also spent her childhood attending Cleveland Indians games and was a lifelong fan. She still preferred listening to games on the radio rather than on television.

Jean graduated from East High School, and later from Heidelberg College in 1952 with a degree in Home Economics. Jean taught school at Huron and Margaretta High schools. Jean was a role model for Martha Stewart. She loved to plan meals, try new recipes, bake, sew, and can fresh fruits and vegetables.

She was an energetic person and always had something she wanted to do. She was an avid reader, crocheter, liked to watch movies, keep up with the Indians, attend garage sales, and go for walks. Jean was active in the Huron United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir for over 50 years. She cooked for Logos kids for many years.

Jean loved to work. After her teaching years were over, she worked for Stan Burdick Publications, H+R block in Sandusky, and for Cedar Point well into her eighties. She liked socializing with the gals at work and after hours.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially her granddaughters, whom she will be missed by dearly.

She is survived by her children, Connie (William) Deehr of Berlin Heights, Karen Wright of Huron, and Dan (Mary) Wright of Huron;  four grandchildren, Kelly Wright, Christina and Valerie Deehr, and Laura (Paul) Logan; as well as two great-granddaughters, Emma and Hannah Logan.

She was preceded in death by Stan Wright; her sister, Mary Siringer; her parents, Sherrill and Katherine Chandler; and her granddaughter, Julie Deehr.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the Huron United Methodist Church, 338 Williams St., visitation at 10 am until the time of service at 11 am.  Masks are required by the church.

Jean's family would like to thank Dedra and Judy for their compassionate care, and Stein Hospice for their amazing support. Donations can be made in Jean's name to Huron United Methodist Church, 338 Williams St., Huron, 44839, and Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, 44870.
