James E. Seiple

HURON – James E. Seiple, 98, of Huron, passed away at his residence Tuesday, October 27, 2020.

   He was born August 4 1922 in Willard and graduated from North Fairfield High School in 1940.  He graduated from Ashland College with a BS in education degree in 1953 and then completed his Master in Science Education in 1967 at U.T.   He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa.  He continued his education at summer seminars at the University of Colorado, Bowdon Maine, Wood Hole Oceanographic Ins, North Carolina State, and Ohio State Put-In-Bay.

   He was a US Navy Veteran and served during WWII.  He belonged to NAS Greencove Springs, Squadron UN-12; he was part of the Aviation Overhaul Base 1st NU Nomea, New Caledonia, and was part of the Aviation Repair Unit Guadalcanal Solomon Island; and went to Supervisor Tech Training School in Memphis TN.  He attended Naval Aviation School in Chicago.  He received the American Theater Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Navy good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.

   He worked as a teacher for many years.  He taught at Firelands High School, Huron High School, he was Teacher of the Year in 1975 and was the first Science Dept. Head at Huron High School. 

   He coached Basketball, baseball, and was an Assistant Football coach for Firelands High School and coached Huron Jr. High Football, High School Reserve Basketball and Freshman Football.

  He enjoyed traveling and camping with his family, Surf fishing in S.C., reading, woodworking, carving, and his yard work.  He enjoyed spending time with his grand kids.

   He is survived by his grandchildren, Hans and Elaine Holland, Bud Holland, and Heath and Andrea Holland; and by his great-granddaughter Lydia Iris Holland.

   He is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, in 2011and his daughter and son in law Stella “Hazel” and Harold  Holland, of Toledo, OH.

   Friends may call Thursday, Oct 29th from 6 to 8 p.m.at the Foster Funeral Home & Crematory, 410 Main Street, Huron where services will be Friday at 11 a.m.

   Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.
