Helen Garba Obituary

Helen M. Garba, age 73, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and family. Born on September 24, 1952, in Tuscumbia Alabama , Helen was the youngest of seven children. She later graduated from Cleveland's John Marshall High School in 1970.

Helen went on to build a dedicated career with Ohio Bell, from which she retired after many years of service. She made her home in Huron for 45 years, where she became a beloved member of the community.

A devoted mother, Helen was deeply involved in her children’s lives and activities, supporting them through 4-H, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and the Huron High School band and athletic programs. She was a constant presence, offering encouragement, love, and unwavering support.

Her greatest joy was her role as “Nana.” She treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren, Simon and Louisa Baker, creating memories filled with laughter and love. In her free time, Helen enjoyed traveling, shopping, and going to the movies — simple pleasures that brought her great happiness.

Helen is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Robert Garba; her loving daughter, Melissa (Nick) Baker; her loving son, Michael (Cristina) Garba; and her cherished grandchildren, Simon and Louisa Baker. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas (Barbara) Alexander; her sister, Barbara Lenchak; her brothers-in-law, Ronald (Marquerite) Garba and James Barvincak; her sisters-in-law, Paula Alexander, Carolyn Alexander, Cathy Pieciak, and Carol Boesch; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by Thomas and Julia Alexander, her father and mother; her sister, Charlotte Barvincak; her brothers, Charles (Donna) Alexander, Carl Alexander, and Ronnie Alexander; and her brothers-in-law, Richard Garba and John Lenchak.
