Gloria Kelso Obituary

Gloria Kay Kelso, 82, passed Monday, April 14, 2025, at Mill Manor Care Center in Vermilion. She went peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 5, 1942, at Glenville Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Harry Ellsworth Zollars and Katherine “Jeanette” (Raines) Zollars.

Gloria graduated from Charles F. Brush High School in 1960 and attended Butler University for one year. She then married Dave Kelso and raised their four children. Over the years, she worked as a high school secretary, at the planning commission, and later earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Lake Erie College in 1985. She went on to receive her Master’s Degree from the School of Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University in 1993. In 1995, she became a licensed Independent Social Worker and loved her work as a child and family therapist. She especially enjoyed doing in-home crisis interventions with emotionally struggling children, adolescents, and their families. She also worked at a group home for mentally disturbed adults, an outpatient rehabilitation facility, protective services, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters in Lake/Geauga Counties.

Her interests included spending time with family and friends, taking care of her dog Gus, going to the beach and vacationing, reading, music, movies, geese and songbirds, church on Sundays, and visiting her kids and grandkids.

She is survived by her brother Ron (Carolyn) Zollars of California; her children Kim (Bill) Heinemann of Delaware, Karen (Tom) Hastings of Huron, Dan (Holly) Kelso of Toledo, and Dina Warren of Mentor-on-the-Lake; grandchildren Kyle (Courtney), Colin, Hannah (Wyatt), Miranda, Julia, Carl, Hailey, and Scout; and great-grandchildren Marnie, Banks, Wells, Crosby, and Rinnie. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, June 21st, starting at noon at Huron United Methodist Church, 338 Williams St.
