Geraldine (Conaway) Wentz

Geraldine Wentz, a longtime resident of Huron and member of the United Methodist Church, passed away on December 12, 2024.

Gerry taught at Shawnee Elementary and Woodlands for over 20 years. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in the church choir for many years. She was also a girl scout leader, a longtime bridge player, enjoyed her garden and had many friends. She lived in her Chaska Beach home for over 60 years. Her last 3 years were spent in an assisted living facility in Rocky River near her daughter.

Gerry Conaway was born in Dennison, Ohio on July 10, 1919, to parents Robert and Susan Conaway. She had 3 brothers, Robert, Eugene, and Ted and 2 sisters, Dorothy and Mary. The family moved to Columbus when she was 13. She attended Ohio State with a degree in elementary education.

Gerry moved to Kenton, Ohio for a teaching position. She met and married Wayne Wentz on Thanksgiving Day in 1943. They moved to Columbus after World War II so Wayne could finish his education at Ohio State.

A job brought them to Northern Ohio where they lived briefly in Sandusky and built a house in Huron. They were proud parents of Pamela Ebert (Gary), Eric Wentz (Debbie), and Libby Wentz (Patrick Valandra). She had seven grandchildren, Caroline Bussewitz (Dain), Amanda Liskovec (Jon), Brian Ebert (Bethany), Meghan Williams (Justin), Mathew Wentz, Grace Valandra, and Phillip Valandra. She was also blessed with 8 great-grandchildren, Ronan, Brennan & Emerson Bussewitz, Avery and Leah Liskovec, Rylee and Ashton Williams, and Baya Ebert.

Gerry had an incredible 105 years and would always say, " I never smoked, I never drank, and I walked every day."

Private family services will be held at a later date.
