Gerald Anthony Simon, 81, of Garfield Heights, Ohio, peacefully passed away on May 16, 2025, in Macedonia, Ohio.
Born in Sandusky, Ohio, on June 23, 1943, Gerald was the son of Harold and Marcella Simon. He dedicated thirty years to his beloved work at UPS, where he became a well-known and cherished figure in the community due to his warm personality.
Gerald was a proud graduate of Huron High School, where he was an active member of the wrestling team, contributing to their District Championship victory in 1961. He also played football for two years, participated in basketball for one year, and took up golf for a year. Following high school, he attended Bowling Green State University for two years.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Gerald had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed hitting the batting cages, water skiing, white-water rafting, and jet skiing. A devoted fan of Ohio State football, he spent many happy hours at the driving range, cheering for the Indians baseball team, and supporting the Cleveland Browns. He also had a keen interest in politics and was actively involved in the Teamsters.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Mary Summers Simon; daughters Gina (Larry) Ciullo, Cathy (Craig) Rooney, and Autumn (Andy) Kasprzak; son George (Megan) Johnston; stepsons Poncho and Mario Summers; and brother Gene Simon. He was a proud grandfather to Kristin, Kenneth, and Konnor Ciullo; Skylar Rooney; Josie, Annie, Lilly, Drew, Ben, and Cole Kasprzak; and Skylar, Seth, Hayden, and Liam Johnston. He also leaves behind eight step-grandchildren; many nieces, including Sandi (Regis) Weiss, Barb Simon, and Angie Masterson; nephews Dan (Eve) Trautman and Bob Simon; and countless other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marcella Simon; sister Alice Trautman; brother Bob Simon; brother Paul “Harry” Simon; and nephew Howie Simon.
Jerry cherished family reunions and had a deep love for visiting relatives. He took great joy in attending sporting events alongside his wife and children and loved embarking on road trips. An avid dog lover, he often expressed the wish that people could embody the loyalty and affection of dogs. Proudly Ohioan, Jerry relished a good Italian meal and was especially fond of chocolate chip cookies.
He will be remembered as a loving son, a proud and patient father, and a devoted and loyal husband to his beautiful wife, Mary.
