George Taylor Obituary

George (Ed) Taylor, 81, of Huron, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 15, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was born on April 24, 1943 in Ontario, Canada, to the late George and Mary Taylor. He grew up on a farm where he learned how to work the land, milk the cows, hoe beans and corn, and pick strawberries and melons, all of which provided him with a sound work ethic that he continued for the rest of his life.

He pursued his education at Ashland College earning a degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation with a minor in English. He continued his studies at Bowling Green State University obtaining a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling.

Ed dedicated 35 years of his life as an esteemed teacher and coach at Huron City Schools, where he profoundly impacted the lives of his students and athletes, building lasting relationships that he deeply cherished. In 2019, he was inducted into the Huron High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a coach. His commitment to education and mentorship extended beyond the classroom, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Outside of his professional life, Ed had a true passion for the outdoors that he shared with his children and grandchildren. He loved to teach them how to fish, value the land, and the importance of giving back to it.  As an avid hunter and fisherman, he found solace and joy in nature’s beauty and felt closest to God in the depths of the woods and the roll of the water. He cherished winters in Florida, where he fished and relaxed.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Mary (Legando) Taylor; his beloved children, Curtis (Jodi), Kristi, Casey (Jessica), Catherine (Amir), and Kevin; his cherished grandchildren, Kendall, Jake, Chase, Kennedy, Carter, Laney, Kamran, Kasra, Andrew, Evelyn, Madelyn, and Lillian; as well as his sisters, Bernice Hamler and Marilyn (Bill) Enderle. He also leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he served.

He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Taylor Rose, and his sisters, Norma Batch and Doris Taylor.
