Gary Magi Obituary

Gary Magi, 74, of Huron, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, October 5.  Born July 23, 1947 to Salvador (Toby) Magi and Francis (Corrado) in Sandusky, Ohio.  He was a 1966 graduate of Sandusky High School and served in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1970.  He served his country during the Vietnam War and fondly remembered his time in Okinawa, Japan.

After the service, Gary was a technician with Buckeye Cable Vision, but spent the majority of his career with Ohio Edison retiring in 2009.  Gary was a long time member of the Sandusky Sailing Club and was an avid birdwatcher.

On August 16, 1975, Gary married Lura (Hershey) and together had two daughters, Kellie and Emily.  In addition to his girls, Gary was loved by all children in the neighborhood and will always be remembered for a weekly trips to Skate World, long bike ride adventures, nature walks, and above all his kindness to everyone.  More recently, Gary enjoyed having breakfast with “the guys” and spending time with his wife and close neighbor friends.  Gary may mostly be remembered for being the man walking his beloved Bichons around town daily. 

Gary is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lura (Hershey) Magi, daughters Kellie (Dennis) Palmer of Berlin Heights, Ohio, and Emily (Michael) Rae of Edwards, Colorado, grandsons Landon (14) and Grant (6) Palmer and granddaughter Cora Rae (1), sisters Lynette (Mark) Zezeck and Pam (Franz) Kistler of Sandusky, sister-in-law Sandy (Mike) Magi, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Mike Magi.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, October 8, at Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron, Ohio.  Visitation will be from 9- 10 am, with a service to follow.  In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by memorial donations to Back to the Wild, Inc. (4504 Bardshar Rd., Castalia, OH 44824) a wildlife rehabilitation and education center whose mission was dear to Gary‘s heart.
