Frances Gioffre

HURON - Frances Gioffre, 88, of Huron, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, April 5, 2020.

   She was born April 21, 1931 in Sant'Eufemia D'Aspromonte, Italy. She received her Bachelor of Education from Reggio Calabria University located in Italy. She came to the United States in 1958 and became a devoted wife and mother to her family who adored her. She was an incredible seamstress who worked at Lindsley's Menswear Clothing, Huron, and Newport Dry Goods, Catawba, doing alterations and tailoring.    

   She was a longtime member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, and volunteered at Providence Healthcare and Huron St. Peter Catholic School. Always dressed impeccably, Frances never stepped out the door without her pair of heels. She was a mixture of class and kindness who left a lasting impression on anyone who ever met her. She was also an amazing cook who never let a guest leave her house hungry. Her pasta sauce with a secret touch of sugar was legendary. Most importantly to her, she was a woman of unbelievable faith in Christ, and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

   She is survived by her two loving sons, Joseph R. (Nancy) Gioffre of Avon Lake, and Frank V. (JBG) Gioffre of Huron; she was the cherished grandmother of Joseph, Amanda, Rafaella and Francesco Gioffre; she is also survived by her sisters Pina Mignogno of Port Chester, NY, Melina Petrucci, Silvana Schisani, Rita Santaniello and Titti Cuntreri all of Rome, Italy, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

   She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph R. Gioffre in 1982; parents, Francesco and Maria Monterosso (Carrozza); a brother, Vincenzo Monterosso; and sisters Tota, Lina and Gianna Monterosso.

   The family would like to thank the entire staff of Stein Hospice for their excellent care and compassion shown to Frances and her family, it will always be appreciated.

   Thinking of the health and safety of others, the family will have a private service and entombment at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
