Sandusky - Fern Katherine Bainbridge 88 of Sandusky, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Parkevue Health Care Center, Sandusky.

Fern was born on August 15, 1930 in Garfield Heights, Ohio. In 1950 Fern married William T. (“Bill”) Bainbridge of Cleveland, Ohio. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army Medical Core in 1954 and was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany where Fern joined him. Fern and Bill later moved to Frankfort, Germany where their first child was born in 1955. Three months later Fern and Bill returned to the Cleveland area where they had two more children.

After raising her family, Fern attended Cuyahoga Community College of Nursing. She became a member of the school’s Board of Directors upon her graduation. Fern went on to have a successful career as a registered nurse working in the intensive care unit at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland. In 1974, Fern and Bill relocated their family to Huron, Ohio where Fern continued her nursing career at Firelands Hospital in Sandusky.

Although Fern enjoyed her nursing career and helping people, what she enjoyed the most was spending time with her family. Fern was an avid fan of Cleveland sports and Ohio State football. She will be remembered for her true love of animals.

Fern is survived by her husband, William Bainbridge; sons, Dale Bainbridge (Allison Choppo) and David (Jennifer) Bainbridge; daughter, Kathy (Rick) Beilhart; grandchildren, Alex Beilhart, Matthew Beilhart, and Jessica Bainbridge; and sister, Nancy (Art) Bors.

Fern is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Myrta Reed; brother, Roger Reed; sisters, Louella Ruzicka and Joyce Jones; and grandson, Steven Bainbridge.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either Doctor’s Without Boarders at www.doctorswithoutboarders.org or your local Food Bank.
