SANDUSKY – Donald Pflieger, 82, of Sandusky, passed away at his home in Sandusky, Saturday, April 17, 2021. The path of Alzheimer’s Disease can be long and dark. Don has traveled that path for nine years. He is now at peace.
Don was born on January 28, 1939 in Norwalk, OH. He was the second son of Harry and Lucille (Corrigan) Pflieger. He graduated from Campion High School, a Jesuit boarding school, in Wisconsin. Don served in the US Army on tour in Germany as a member of the traveling Army Pistol Team. After the Army, he attended and graduated from Kent State University, majoring in history and library science. He taught history in Aurora, Norwalk, and Sandusky Schools. In 1970, Don was hired as the librarian at Huron High School. As libraries became more of a media center, it became apparent that technology would drive education. Don’s skills in this area were developed in the army and he received commendations for his work. The Huron school system gave him the opportunity to bring library science into the computer age. He created the first computer lab in a high school library in this area. He collaborated with NASA to offer a summer computer camp and started interdepartmental curriculum training for staff. Even in retirement, he served Erie County Schools as a computer consultant at Huron, Sandusky, and Central Catholic schools. In his spare time, Don owned and operated Superior Driving School.
Don loved driving and traveling. He never tired of a new adventure. It might be Europe, Colorado, Toronto, Key West, or Seabrook Island.
Don is survived by his wife Judy, of 34 years, and four adult children, Michelle, Brian, Brett, and Leslie. He has five grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Erin, Ruby, and Sawyer. Don’s brother, David (Pat), reside in Savannah, Georgia. He has a niece, two nephews, and Judy’s family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Lucille, grandparents, and an infant son.
