Debra L. (Schafer) Ashley

HURON - Debbie L. Ashley, 62, of Huron, passed away early Monday morning, June 27, 2020 in her home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

          Debbie was born May 13th, 1958 in Heidelberg, Germany to James and Mary “Mike” Schafer.

          Raised in Mansfield, OH, Debbie graduated from Malabar High School in 1976 before graduating from Wooster Beauty College.

          After marrying her high school sweetheart, Mike Ashley, they relocated to Huron, Ohio and raised two daughters, Whitney and Allie.  Debbie and Mike spent 46 years together.

          Debbie was the office manager at St. Peter Catholic Church in Huron.  She was a creative soul, volunteered in countless activities, and loved cooking and maintaining their home in Village Green.  Debbie loved beach vacations, rooting for the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes, and her dogs Max and Bo.  Most of all, Debbie loved being surrounded by her friends and family. 

          Debbie will be dearly missed by her husband Mike Ashley; daughters Whitney (Adam) Steinmetz, Allison Ashley; sister Kim Kuhn; (nephews, Collin and Cameron); father, Jim Schafer; mother-in-law Joan Ashley; brother-in-law’s, Mark (Mary) Ashley and Matthew; (nephew Matt Ashley; nieces, Emily Ashley and Amanda Boyce Ashley) and countless precious friends.

          Debbie was preceded in death by her mother Mary Schafer; father-in-law Russell Ashley; brother-in-law Brian Ashley; and her beloved black lab Cody. 

          Friends may call from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, July 2nd at the St. Peter Catholic Church Gathering Space, 430 Main Street, Huron.  Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 3rd at 10:30 a.m. in the church officiated by Father Jeff Sikorski.   Burial will follow at Scott Cemetery, Huron.
