Darlene Paulsen Obituary

Darlene died peacefully on December 13, the same date of her birth in 1941. Her life was notably characterized by service, caring, and love for others. This love was not only a focus of her family, but also of anyone she met. She had a gift of relating to others.

Her work spanned many years and varying endeavors. As a child she pretended to be a teacher to her siblings, foretelling her future vocation. Early on, she developed a great love of reading and books. She was an avid learner, achieving excellence throughout her formal education. After graduating from Solon High School, she attended Kent State University on a scholarship, earning a degree in education, and later two master’s degrees, one in education at Kent State, and a second in counseling at Bowling Green State University. She used her skills at all educational levels, from elementary to middle and high school, as well as the college level.

After her long teaching career, she used her human relations and counseling skills in the role of executive director of her husband’s counseling business. Throughout, her paramount quality was to connect with people in a way that made them feel cared about and supported. She achieved an admirable level of happiness and accomplishment throughout her lifetime.

She was married to her husband, Richard, days short of 57 years, and was the proud mother of Alisa (Jim Van De Ryt) Paulsen, Cara Paulsen, and Erik (Martty Aleman) Paulsen, and grandmother to Austin, Jacob, Connor, Tyler, and Landen. She was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Florence Baker, and younger sister, Diane Perich. She is survived by her brother, Dwight Baker, her brother-in-law, Tom Perich, her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Those moved by Darlene’s life are encouraged to memorialize her by taking extra time to do a kind deed for someone in special need of caring and compassion.
