Constance Gordon Obituary

Constance June Dowell, known as Connie (Gordon) to everyone who knew her, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at her lakeside home, surrounded by her family and the sound of the waves. She was born in Delaware, Ohio, on June 11, 1935.

Connie lived in Delaware and Columbus before feeling called to the water. Over the years, she traveled and lived in Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Maria, and Huntington Beach, California, before eventually making her way to Huron, Ohio. Later in life, she would spend much of her time on the road, traveling the country with her companion, Ron, and together they made their home in Fort Myers, Florida.

Over the years, Connie worked for the Columbus School Board, CCS Advertising, and Firelands College. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2875 and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Connie was the life of the party and surrounded herself with friends and family as often as she could. She loved to read, garden, cook, and preserve food with her family. “Apple Butter Day” was a fall holiday in her home. An excellent seamstress, she made it her goal to sew blankets for each member of her family. She seemed to know everyone and was a fierce and loyal supporter of the people in her life. She could also be big and loud when she wanted to be, and those who knew her best loved her for it.

She was preceded in death by her son, Edwin “Randy” Randall McCutcheon; her husband, John T. Gordon; and her son-in-law, Wilfred Hoffmannbeck.

She is survived by her brother, Mike Dowell; her daughters, Sandy Hoffmannbeck, Kathy Oliver, and Sue Dickson (Larry); and her daughter-in-law, Brenda Woods. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jimmy McCutcheon, Tammy Flores (Gino), Matt Oliver (Daniela), Ashley Oliver, Klae Bainter, Brandon Tyler Bainter (Candy), Amber Kesterson (Russell), and Nina Malloy (Rory), along with more great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren  than one could imagine—each one treasured, each one kept warm beneath one of her blankets.

She will be greatly missed.
