Charles Henry Klein, lovingly known to many as “The Tin Man,” passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born to Charles E. Klein and Julia A. Wiley, Charles lived a full and hardworking life defined by devotion to his family, pride in his work, and the simple joys of the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Klein; his brother, Melvin Klein; and his grandson, Alyjah Bores.
Charles is survived by his cherished daughters: Ada (Chuck) Swann, Brenda Michel, Julia (Don) Sells, and Michelle Browning. He was a proud and loving “Poppy” to 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable joy. He is also survived by his siblings: Vonnie (Bill) Spencer, Mary Schenk, Ron (Diane) Klein, and Rose (Lee) Booze, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Charles honorably served his country as a transporter in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated 38 years of hard work to Columbia Gas, where he built a respected career and lasting friendships.
In his younger years, Charles had a passion for speed and engines. He drove race cars and co-owned a tow truck with a close friend. Later, he and his wife Lois enjoyed taking their beloved 1954 Savoy to car shows, sharing their love of classic cars and the community that came with it.
Charles found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved being outdoors—mowing grass, feeding the birds and squirrels, and spending time in nature. He treasured visiting with his Ohio Street friends and never missed a chance to share stories and laughter. One of his favorite sights was taking his faithful dog, Toto, for rides on his three-wheel tricycle, bringing smiles to all who saw them.
Over the last eight years, Charles devoted much of his time to crafting his beloved “Tin Men,” creations that earned him his nickname and became a symbol of his creativity, patience, and heart.
Above all, Charles was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His steady presence, gentle spirit, and unwavering love will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
