Betty Myers Obituary

Betty Myers was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and friend. She passed peacefully in the loving company of her family at the age of 77 on July 29, 2024, after an illness.

Betty was born in 1946 to the late Charles Thomas Sr. and the late Alice Mae Burberry, and was sister to Charlene (Don LeBonte), Charles Jr. (Sonia) Thomas, and was close to her cousins Turney and Floyd Thomas. She was preceded in death by Ruth and Isaac Thomas, her special Aunt and Uncle.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in education at The Ohio State University. While attending college she met and later married Thomas Myers (Huron). They lived in Colorado while Tom served in the Army and later moved to Huron to build their lives and family.

Betty’s life was centered around the importance of family. She was the proud mother of Elizabeth (Michael Jr.) Buckholtz, Sarah (Rick) Zahn, Christopher (Amy) Myers, Paul Myers, Carla Myers, Peter (Gina) Myers, Rebecca (Justin) Buck, and Greg (Lydia) Myers. Lighting up her life were her 13 grandchildren: Michael III, Mavrik, Evrist, Dylan, Logan, Dana, Reid, Lanna, Morgan, Adelaide, Blaize, Elliot, and Noelle, all of whom loved her dearly and will never forget her love and care for them.

Betty was a devoted educator. Her career spanned decades, touching the lives of countless students and their families. Her success as a teacher was recognized with multiple teaching awards from her colleagues and culminated when the students of the teen leadership class of Sandusky Central Catholic Schools selected her for the Inspiration Award. Betty served the community for many years as a 4-H advisor, as a member of the Blue Star Mothers of America, and through teaching Children’s Liturgy of the Word and Sunday School for Saint Peter’s Church for over 40 years. Her kindness, patience, and gentle demeanor left an everlasting and indelible impression on everyone who had the pleasure of interacting with her. Betty enjoyed flower gardening, collecting antiques, sewing, restoring wood furniture, and her cats.

Betty has left this world, yet her legacy of determination, compassion, and strength will live forever through her family and the many lives she’s impacted.

Her life will be celebrated with a visitation at Foster Funeral Home and Crematory in Huron, on Sunday, August 4, from 4-8 PM. Her funeral will take place at Saint Peter’s Church in Huron on Monday, August 5, at 10 AM.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Betty’s name to Sandusky Central Catholic Schools or the COAR Peace Mission.
