Betty Justice passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, in Huron, Ohio, at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born on November 17, 1937, in Ripley, Mississippi, to Olen and Mamie Luna. She attended Falkner High School, graduating in 1955. In September 1960, she married Troy Rutherford in Falkner, Mississippi. In 1961, Troy and Betty moved to northern Ohio, where they lovingly raised their four children together.
Betty dedicated 32 years of service as a teacher’s aide at Berlin Elementary School before retiring. She was deeply active in her church and prioritized her relationship with the Lord throughout her life. Betty was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she will be remembered for her kindness, warm Southern hospitality, and the love she shared so freely with family and friends.
Her homemade biscuits and sweet tea were favorites among all who knew her. Betty also enjoyed quilting and gardening, passions that reflected her caring and creative spirit.
A memorial service will be held by the family on June 6, 2026, in Ripley, Mississippi, where she will be interred beside her beloved husband, Troy.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Olen and Mamie Luna; her husband, Troy Rutherford; her sister, Elaine Robbins; and her brother, Dean Luna.
She is survived by her brothers, Coy Luna and Charles Luna; her children, Mike Rutherford, Patty Fay (Steve), Kellie Hinebaugh (Scott), and Kevin Rutherford (Bree); as well as nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Admirals Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation for the compassionate care they provided to their beloved mother.
