HURON – William H. “Bill” Behrens, 78, died peacefully at his home on Friday, Sept. 13, after a two-month illness. He was born on April 24, 1941 in Norwalk, to the late Harold and Gertrude Behrens. He was a 1959 graduate of Huron High School.

“Bill” was recently employed at Lowe’s, working in contract sales. In earlier years, Bill was a Huron County Sheriff’s deputy, an Ohio State Highway patrolman, and worked at CCC Truck Line in Sandusky. In St. Louis, Bill spent 25 years where he operated U.S.Truck Line.

At an early age, he worked at his father’s Shell gas station at Rye Beach and Cleveland roads. He and his friends enjoyed collecting and restoring hot rods and burning up the back roads surrounding Huron while drag racing.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marleen (Minge); a sister, Carole Ann Thomas, Norwalk;  two sons: Philip of Norwalk and Christopher (Stella)of Redondo Beach, Ca.; a daughter, Elizabeth Behrens, Norwalk; a granddaughter, Saundi Behrens, and a great grandson, Caden Shaufelberger, both of Lincolnton, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law and good friend, Roland “Cobb” Minge.

The true joys of his life were family, his four legged friends, his job, and watching drag racing.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday September 17, 2019, at Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St. Huron.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, and the Humane Society of Erie County, both of Sandusky.
