Ruth Larizza Obituary

HURON – Ruth P. Larizza, 95, of Huron, peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

Ruth was born December 7, 1921 in Townsend Township, Sandusky County, to Haldon and Anna Grosch Winters.

Ruth was a member of the May Flower Society and is a descendent from a long line of strong women role models. She was first of all a loving nurturing mother and secondly an accomplished career woman.

Ruth had two rewarding careers. She started with the Sandusky Register as an area reporter for Huron and Huron Township. She eventually became a full time staff writer and later an editor. Winning numerous awards, she interviewed both religious and civic leaders including coverage of an impromptu press conference by President Kennedy and later interviewing, then Governor, Jimmy Carter.

Ruth eventually changed her career path becoming a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for Tri County Alcohol Center. She participated in many workshops and served on the State Certification Board.

Ruth, and her husband Frank, were active in Huron organizations as well as St. Peter Church, Huron. She always laughed at being the only woman representative at a Diocesan Meeting.

Ruth is survived by her children, Frank (Joan) Larizza of St. Augustine, FL, Gary (Kathee) Larizza of Huron, and Sandra (Paul) Rauch of Georgetown, TX. In addition, she is survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandsons.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, after fifty-five years of marriage, and by Charles Murphy, a special friend.

Friends may call Monday, April 24th from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main Street, Huron. Rev Gerald Ceranowski will be officiating.

Burial will be in Scott Cemetery, Huron.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Peter School or to the Huron Public Library.

The family would like to thank the staff at Providence Commons for making the past two years of mom’s life special, and to Stein Hospice and Providence Care Center for their comfort and aid during the past two weeks.
