Kenneth "Kenny" Majoy Obituary

HURON - SANDUSKY- Kenneth “Kenny” Paul Majoy, Jr. 46, of Huron, died December 28, 2019 at Stein Hospice, Sandusky.

   He was born May 14, 1973 in Sandusky, OH.

   Kenny was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron where he was a Eucharistic minister. He loved his years of volunteering and participating in their Youth Group.

   Kenny served as Vice President in the Action Club with the Erie County Developmental Disabilities, “DD” program. He was a former camp counselor, volunteered with children’s trick or treat; “DD” concerts, dinners, Project Stir trainer, and served as an Advocate. He was a spokesperson for Spectrum Blue and gave speeches about his experiences with bullying to schools and a variety of other audiences.

    He was a die-hard Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan, a member of two bowling leagues, and participated in Self Determination flags. He loved haunted houses, video games, Cedar Point and his dogs.

   He served as an Auxiliary Police Officer in Castalia, OH, as well as serving in the role of “Safety Pup” in the Fourth of July parade and holiday events. He also volunteered as Santa at the Erie County Care Facility.

   In 2013, Kenny began assisting Coach John Schlessman and Coach Steve Keller for the Sandusky High School boy’s basketball team. Later he assisted Coach Keller again at the Margaretta High School basketball program. He was also “2nd Coach” in 2018 for the boy’s baseball team and he volunteered with the girl’s softball team at Margaretta.

   Kenny graduated from Huron High School and Firelands Campus of Bowling Green State University earning a degree in the Humanities. In spite of his lifelong struggles with Prader-Willi Syndrome, Kenny courageously fought a number of physical challenges and was an inspiration to many.

   He is survived by his father, Kenneth Majoy, Sr., sisters Deborah (Carl) Bates Berger of Westlake, OH, Robin (Donald) Bates Haines of Highland Heights, OH, and Nina Bates DeChant of Westlake, OH; brothers, Rodney Bates of Sandusky, OH and Mickey (Kathryne) Bates of Columbia Station, OH. He was a loving uncle to nine nieces and nephews and nine grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Gigi Majoy in February of 2019; his maternal grandparents, General Dewey and Jessie Velma (Vassar) Reynolds; paternal grandparents Ada and Dominic Majoy, and numerous aunts and uncles.

   Family and close friends will be welcome Thursday, January 2nd from 10 a.m. until time of prayer service at 11:30 a.m. at the Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main Street, Huron.  Funeral mass will follow at 12 noon at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main Street, Huron with Rev. Jeffrey McBeth officiating.

   Burial will be at Scott Cemetery, Huron.
