HURON – George A. Zimmerman, 95, formerly of Huron, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Kingston Residence of Vermilion.
He was born October 28, 1923 in Huron and was a lifelong resident.
George worked as a Commercial Fisherman in Huron for many years until working for Standard Oil Company, from which he retired, in 1978.
He belonged to the Ohio State Men’s Archery Champs, a member of PAA (Professional Archery Assoc), Eight ball Archer’s, (team competitions). He sailed on the Great Lakes Oar Boats, out of Huron. He was a US Marine and served during WW II in the Philippines.
He is survived by his daughter, Kay (James) McElroy of Berlin Heights; his son, John (Kendall) Zimmerman of Berlin Heights; his daughter-in-law’s, Jerri and Nanette Zimmerman; 7 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred in 1992; parents, Frank and Margaret (Ritzenthaler) Zimmerman; a son, James Zimmerman; brothers, Frank and Larry Zimmerman; and a sister, Mary Frey.
Cremation will take place and burial will be at Meadow Green Memorial Gardens, Huron.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
