HURON - Edwin Roberts Tyren, 82, of Huron, passed away Monday, September 30, 2019, was born in Palisade and grew up on a farm in North Central Minnesota. He attended school in Aitkin County, and later attended college at the University of Minnesota at Duluth (UMD), where he studied music education. Ed was employed in many interesting capacities throughout his life. He installed power lines, was a steam locomotive fireman on the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway, sailed the Great Lakes on the ore freighter “Champlain”, studied and tested to become a stationary engineer, became a boiler Inspector, and worked at the NASA Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, OH, where he helped conduct tests in the SPF vacuum chamber and HTF facility where rocket engines were tested.
Edwin served in the US Army from 1960 to 1962 as a diesel generator mechanic and was stationed in the Republic of Korea.
Edwin enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. It was a treat for the grandchildren to visit and work on projects in his shop. He enjoyed reading books about tractors, Zane Grey western novels, and National Audubon Society bird books. He enjoyed the outdoors, and especially bird-watching.
Ed was friendly, upbeat and accommodating; and could strike up a conversation anywhere, with anyone about most any subject. Ed will always be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise Ann (Marks) Tyren, and his children: Edwin (Rob) R. Tyren, Jr. (Almeda), Christopher A. Tyren (Elizabeth), Maria (Terri) Tyren -Austin (David), Timothy S. Tyren (Dawn), Brett D. Tyren (Julie), and Amelia (Amy) R. Gioffredo (Joseph) and stepchildren Linda Holmes (Keith), Paul Cooksey (Tonja), Michael Cooksey (Cathy), Edward Cooksey (Nancy), Patrick Cooksey (Kathy), and Sharon Cooksey.
He was grandfather to Edwin (Robbie) Tyren III, Katty (Tyren) Brennan, LeahAnn Tyren, Kaitlyn Ostrov, J.D. Austin, Dakota Austin, Andrew Tyren, Lindsey Tyren, McKenna Tyren, Matthew Tyren, Joseph Gioffredo and Benjamin Gioffredo, and many great-grandchildren. He is survived by his only sister, Marie (Bunny) Peterson (Hugo, MN). He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Jeane (Hammond) Tyren, and his parents Edwin Tyren and Rosa B. Tyren.
Memorial services will be at Foster Funeral Home,410 Main St, Huron on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., with inurnment at the Scott Cemetery.
