Margaret Berryhill Obituary

Margaret Catherine (Blake) Berryhill, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Stein Hospice in Sandusky, Ohio. Margaret was born December 6, 1933, to Vivian Lenton (Hill) and Gordon Callie Blake in Tupelo, Mississippi. Margaret and her family moved to Grand Prairie, Texas where she fell in love with her future husband, Gene, and they were married on August 27, 1954.  After she graduated from Grand Prairie High School, Margaret then went on to get her license as a Registered Nurse. Her first job as a nurse was delivering babies at Dallas Methodist Hospital. After working as a nurse at Fielder Road Medical Associates in Arlington, Texas for many years, she became a school nurse in the Grand Prairie School District. She was eventually promoted to Head Nurse for the district and through her leadership grew the nursing program immensely, providing in-school nursing care and testing for thousands of students in the district. All through her married life, Margaret and Gene loved to go fishing whenever they had time off from school. It was always their retirement dream to live on Lake Whitney, Texas where they had always caught the big ones. After many years with the Grand Prairie School District Margaret retired with Gene and they moved to their dream lake house overlooking Lake Whitney. They both loved the grandkids tremendously and “Nana and Papa” spent many hours teaching them all how to enjoy the life of fishing and boating. They soon joined Our Lady of the Lake Episcopal Church in Whitney and Margaret became very involved in the church ministry, as the Director of the Altar Guild. She was also an honored member of the Order of Daughters of the Holy Cross. After her husband, Gene, passed away she joined her son, Ken, and his family in Ohio. She enjoyed playing tic tac toe with the great-grandchildren and reading murder mystery books.

She is survived by her son, Ken (Diane); grandchildren, Jordan (Tori) Berryhill, Alison (Robbie) Tyren, Blake (Jenna) Berryhill, and Brett Berryhill; and great-grandchildren, Zoe Tyren, Wyatt Tyren, Garrett Tyren, and Elliott Tyren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Jim Blake; husband, Gene Berryhill; son, Glenn Berryhill; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Berryhill.

The family would like to share their heartfelt thanks to all those who cared for Margaret while she lived at The Willows in Bellevue, Ohio, and especially all those who cared for her at Stein Hospice in her final days.

The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Stein Hospice, https://www.steinhospice.org/donation-opportunities/gifts-in-memory-or-in-honor/, or Our Lady of the Lake Episcopal Church, 658 Highway 22, Clifton, Texas 76634.
